Elina is a solicitor and a mother of a child with complex medical needs. She has first-hand experience in how difficult it is for families with disabled children to get the right support and services in place. These experiences inspired her to recalibrate her career from commercial litigation to working with families who have to pursue legal avenues to get the right support in place for their children.
At work, Elina has a varied case load of Education matters (including SEND Tribunal claims and Judicial Review matters) as well as Community Care and Public Law claims. As a mother of a child with a tracheostomy and long-term ventilation needs Elina is particularly interested in supporting children with complex medical needs and has first-hand experience in challenging authorities to put in place multi-agency funded care and education provision. She regularly challenges Local Authorities and NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups to provide SEND children with appropriate services and provision in relation to their health, social care and educational needs.
Before joining Sinclairslaw Elina's caseload consisted of corporate responsibility claims, group actions and cross border commercial dispute resolution matters. She has been involved in some of the major group actions to come before the English Courts and has extensive experience in Commercial and High Court litigation, Arbitration, ET claims as well as providing corporate clients with high quality legal advice. More recently, Elina worked with a large UK based international charity providing statutory services to victims of modern slavery and was involved in projects promoting access to justice for this particularly vulnerable client group.
During her free time Elina volunteers as an adviser at SOS!SEN, a national independent SEND legal charity and is a Governor specialising in SEND and safeguarding at a local, state run inner city primary school. She is also a trustee of Maha Devi, a charity providing yoga therapy for children and adults with special needs. She regularly speaks as an expert by experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital events for professionals. Elina is a keen outdoors swimmer and swims in the Hampstead ponds throughout the year.
